Cabaret
I used to think that my love for music was tied to genres.
Over the past few years I came to a much simpler realization: I am driven by emotions. I used to go see a million shows because once in a while something magical will happen and you will be able to lose your mind. At its core, isn’t it what life is about?
So I started getting out of my zone, which eventually got me to Broadway. I’m usually in the mindset of making the most of where I am, and I live in New York. People come from all over the world for this.
Of all the shows I have had the chance to see over the years, nothing comes close to Cabaret. The theme, the interactive approach, the music, and the orchestration moved me more than most things I’ve seen until then. Something so impactful being written 60 years ago blows my mind. It’s so dark and beautiful.
Now you’ll find me trying to convince my “regular” music friends to come see a show. The production value! The musicianship! Don’t ruin your life by trying to be too cool. Life is so much more interesting when you open a door you didn’t know existed.
I was lucky to catch Cabaret’s closing performance on September 21st with David Merino as the MC. Unforgettable. The 1998 cast recording has been on rotation ever since.
