My name is Julien and I am based in New York City.

I almost always carry a film camera with me. I think it indirectly allows me to be present, notice things I wouldn’t otherwise, and appreciate how light reflects on the scenes around me. Rolls were piling up and it felt like the right time to create some sort of archive.

I have a love-hate-love relationship with social media and wanted to find a low-stake, non-performative way to keep track of what I’ve been up to. A good old website.

The grid is in chronological order. Sometimes I will find an older roll and add it. Sometimes I will re-scan a shot, or add a story. It’s messy and not that serious. Think of it as space “off the grid” where I can post whatever I’m into.

This may be the most honest peek into my life. You’ll find a lot of the music, people and places that I love. I have no idea how you got here and hope you’ll enjoy it.

Unless noted, all photos are shot on film from a wide range of point and shoot cameras.

Most black and white photos taken after March 2020 were home developed from my beautiful kitchen in Brooklyn. I wonder what happened then.

If we don’t already know each other, don’t be a stranger.
